Tanis and Kent have a timeshare in Maui and invited us to come with them for Thanksgiving. Neither of us had been before so we jumped at the opportunity ;) We flew out the afternoon of Sunday the 24th. Well, we were supposed to fly out that afternoon at 2:45, but we ended up sitting on the runway for probably 2 hours (some mechanical issue). Aiden fell asleep while we sat there and I was getting more and more irritated because I would have loved for him to be sleeping while we were in the air. After 2 hours they told us we could get off and grab food if we'd like, so we did, only to be called back like 10 minutes later when they were finally ready to go..grrr. Needless to say, Aiden was very active most of the flight and would only sleep laying across us, even though he had his own seat for the first time (now that he's 2!). We were more than ready to get off that plane in Hawaii. Because of the delay taking off, we didn't make it there until like 9 in the evening and then we had an hour drive to our resort (Ka'anapali Beach Club). So that day was completely gone!
Monday morning we were feeling pretty hungry!! We got up and had a nice breakfast at a cute restaurant called Slappy Cakes where there's a griddle at each table if you choose to cook your own pancakes. We didn't end up using the griddle this time, but later in the week we did ;) I got the Banana Bread French Toast!
After breakfast we checked out a little farmer's market and Aiden caught eye of the playground across the street. I wish I had brought the camera. We let him play a while (he particularly loved the twisty slide and the swings) and he cried when we left :/ Then we were off to get groceries and back to the resort so that Aiden could nap. Well let's be honest, we all napped ;)
Our view from our room.
We (well mostly Tanis) spent several hours planning out the rest of the week and making reservations. And later that afternoon we finally headed down to the pool and beach ;)
All ready to head down.
Swimming with Grandpa.
It was breezy and a bit chilly. Aiden was content to just hang out on the steps.
Dad got him in to swim though.
This was Aiden's first time at the beach!
He seemed to like it ;)
Laughing when the waves would come in :)
Sun setting.
Paddleboarder.
That evening we went to Bubba Gump's for dinner. Trent is a big "Forrest Gump" fan, so he had to get a picture on the bench ;)
There's a huge banyan tree growing through the restaurant.
Tuesday, November 26th
Aiden loved to go out on the balcony and look for the koi fish way down in the water.
On Tuesday we headed over to Lahaina, a fun shopping area, and got to see one of the largest banyan trees in the U.S. I guess it's the size of an entire city block and stands more than 60 feet high and has 12 major trunks. It was a very warm day so it was really nice to get under the shade of that gigantic tree!
We're looking pretty tiny in front of it, and this isn't even all of it ;)
More of the tree - everything in this picture is just one tree!
Got us some shaved ice! So refreshing!
A little more swimming that afternoon.
Aiden showing off his monkey walk from his swim lessons at home :)
That evening we went down to the Hyatt for a luau and dinner.
Aiden checking out the flamingos.
We got to choose a "cocktail" when we first got there. This was basically Sprite with added lime flavoring and, yes, Aiden basically drank the whole thing. We thought it was funny that it pretty much matched his shirt.
Aiden was being a little reckless with his fork :/
Oh so happy ;)
Here are some pictures from the evening. It was hard to get very good pictures since I wasn't supposed to use a flash.
The Haka.
Those are all fire dancers up there.
A black swan maybe?
We stopped at an outdoor shopping mall next door before we headed back to the resort. We kind of loved this statue of a mother whale and her baby.
All decked out. Aiden had so much fun running around in the grass.
I miss it already! Great blog!
